Prayers for Your Husband Based on Ephesians 5 and 6

Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. Ephesians 5:1-4 (NIV)

Dear Lord, may my husband strive to walk in Your love and follow Your example. May his relationships model sacrificial love in action and prompt a ripple effect throughout his family and friends. Remove impure thoughts from his mind, and help him focus instead upon Your goodness and lovingkindness. Eliminate greed from his life and replace it with generosity. Direct his conversations and inspire him to reject any words from his vocabulary that do not honor You. Compel him to lavish You with praise whenever he has an opportunity. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light, Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 5:8, 15-20 (NIV)

Dear Lord, may my husband be known for consistently embodying the qualities of goodness, righteousness, and truth. Instill in him a passion to shine Your light in his encounters with others. Give him a craving to chase after that which is pleasing to You. Heighten his awareness so that he sees witnessing opportunities, and impress upon him the importance of making the most of each one. Fill him with a hunger for gratefully proclaiming the transformational power of Your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word,  and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.  In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. Ephesians 5:21-28 (NIV)

Dear Lord, You flawlessly designed the husband-wife covenant so that it would represent the relationship between You and Your people. I ask for Your direction and wisdom as we seek to portray that bond in our marriage. Please help us as we endeavor to exhibit respect, submission, and Christlike love to each other in a manner that reflects You. May we daily serve each other with humility, encourage each other with sincerity and spur each other’s faith on with enthusiasm. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise—  “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. Ephesians 6:2-4 (NIV)

Dear Lord, help my husband to live a life that honors his parents and their legacy. May he espouse values they instilled in him, and may he raise our children to develop those positive aspects. Deepen his relationship with our children. Remove any bitterness from our household and replace it with Your matchless peace. Bless his efforts to be devotedly present in our children’s lives, and spark a desire in him to be a Godly father who parents with wisdom, faith, and selfless love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.  Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Ephesians 6:10-13 (NIV)

Dear Lord, build my husband’s belief in You and Your might. Prompt him to call upon you daily to ask You for divine direction. May You fully arm him against all hindrances that Satan attempts to put in his path. Give him a faith that refuses to waver or become weary in hardship, but instead increases in stamina as he yields to You. Grant him the ability to discern spiritual forces, and entrust him with the ability to stand against all evil. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,  and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Ephesians 6:14-18 (NIV)

Dear Lord, may Your truth be the foundation on which my husband constructs his convictions and values. Prepare him to be a voice of reason especially in situations that involve agitation and provocation. I pray that he will love reading Your Word, and that You will bestow upon him profound insight into scripture and a remarkable skill for illustrating its application to life. Mold him into a man of prayer who talks to You and listens to You without ceasing. May he vigilantly pray for the salvation and discipleship of all. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
