It’s Not About You

Hello! This was on devotableapp.com as my monthly contribution yesterday, March 21st. I’d love for you to take a few moments to read it and tell me what you think!

If you are not excited to go to your church on Sunday mornings, the church is not necessarily doing church wrong…maybe you are.

Church isn’t about you, or me, or any of us. Sure, we receive amazing benefits from going to church, such as being fed by the Word of God, fellowshipping with others who love the Lord, and learning more about our Savior, but again, it is really not about us.

Church is about God. It is about what we can give to a perfect God, not about what we can get from a congregation of imperfect people. It is about worshipping a God who is so-much-more-than-worthy of the “sacrifice” of getting out of our comfortable bed and possibly putting up with some aspects of the service we find annoying. And yes, I will say it: When we go to church, we will most likely encounter irritating people, so it might just be time to decide that pleasing God is more important than trying to avoid being offended by someone’s conduct, lifestyle, or personality.

New Song: Place Your Faith In Me

I want to share a song with you that I just finished writing yesterday!  The end of the chorus, “Do not trust in what you see,” is a phrase that God keeps bringing to my mind lately. He is constantly working in our lives and the lives of people we are praying for…sometimes in ways that we can see and sometimes not. He asks us to keep trusting in Him and believing that (as Romans 8:28 says) He is working “all things together for good.”

Scroll down for the link, take a listen and as always, I would love to hear from you!

Here are the lyrics:

Verse 1: Looking at our problems with human eyes, we don’t always realize that God is a god of miracles, specializing in impossible.

When it seems like He is far away, when you can’t grasp why life’s working out this way –if we love and live for Him it’s understood:  He’s working all things for our good.

Chorus:  Amidst the chaos ringing loud and clear, God’s voice reminds us that we need not fear. When burdens on your heart are weighing, on your knees you’re praying, Can you hear Him saying? “Do not trust in what you see. My child, place your faith in me.”

Verse 2: Daniel was in a lion’s den. Gideon fought against stronger men. Sarah thought she was past her prime.  God came through just in time.

David was hiding inside a cave. Joseph’s brothers sold him as a slave. The thief felt defeated by his crime. God came through just in time.

Chorus: Amidst the chaos ringing loud and clear, God’s voice reminds us that we need not fear. When burdens on your heart are weighing, on your knees you’re praying, Can you hear Him saying? “Do not trust in what you see. My child, place your faith in me.”

Bridge: Since before we were born, we were called by His grace to pursue and reflect His beautiful face. So, remember when you don’t see the hands of God, You can always trust the plans of God.

Chorus:  Amidst the chaos ringing loud and clear, God’s voice reminds us that we need not fear. When burdens on your heart are weighing, on your knees you’re praying, Can you hear Him saying? “Do not trust in what you see. My child, place your faith in me.”

All We Will Ever Need

We search and we seek. We wander and we roam.
We look for satisfaction and a place that feels like home.

When our pursuits fall flat, we put the blame in the wrong places.
We continue to find momentary void-fillers for our heart’s empty spaces.

As our vices fail again, we move on to the next transgression.
If only we would listen for Jesus’ voice and realize He’s the answer to all of our questions.

Nothing we attempt to replace Him with brings us His promised rest.
He offers peace beyond compare and our righteous efforts He does bless.

No cheap thrill or miracle pill will fulfill us the way Jesus will.

No fleeting fame or video game will set our hearts aflame as much as the power of Jesus’ name.

No hidden sin or gambling win will ever provide us with lasting joy within.

No material thing or shiny bling will supply us with the contentment that Jesus can bring.

So let’s be honest as we approach Him with our struggles and our fears.
Tell Him we want to trust Him. He has always-listening ears.

Let’s ask Him to reveal His perfect character and to show us just how real He is.
To strengthen us and assure us that when we accept His love and forgiveness, we are forever His…

Jesus, thank You for persevering as You draw us nearer and nearer.
Take the appeal of the darkness away and cause our vision to be clearer.

Please open our hearts and eyes to our life’s purpose of glorifying Your name.
Extend to us forgiveness, mercy, and love as You take away our deep shame.

Everything You offer brings us genuine completion and peace.
You fill our emptiness with a perfect love that will never, ever cease.

Thank You for being our refuge in troubled times, and help us to follow wherever You lead.
Give us a heart to seek Your face and wisdom to realize You are all we will ever need.
