Never Negative in the New Year

Just a quick afternoon thought:
I will never forget conversing with a woman who told me about someone she admired. She shared that she had never heard her say anything negative about anyone. Not even once.
That conversation was years ago and still comes to my mind often. I think about that woman overlooking the painful things done by others by not making any adverse comments about them. I think about her consistently believing the best about people. And then I think about how incredible it would be to go through life with that mindset.

Philippians 4:8 says, “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”
If our thoughts are supposed to be about things described by those wonderful adjectives, it stands to reason that our words are also to be about those things.

Can you imagine what our words would be like if we challenged ourselves to spend a whole day concentrating on Philippians 4:8 categories only? Perhaps we would sense something inspiring happening — first in our minds and then in our words. And then maybe those changes would persuade us that being more intentional with our thoughts is well worth it!
New Year – New challenge!
