What They Say is Irrelevant (Our Identity in Christ ~ Day 1 of 3)

Day 1

Words can sure sting, can’t they? A few years ago, when I read some hurtful words on a screen, the stinging was instant. So were the tears.

When someone describes us in an unflattering manner, or when we feel rejected by someone significant to us, or even when an unfavorable comment finds its way onto one of our social media platforms, negative thoughts can start to arise about our identity.

But they don’t have to.

When those negative thoughts threaten to take up residence in our mind, we can make the decision to combat them with this truth: What others say or think about me is irrelevant. My identity is firmly established in Christ.

There is one authoritative, accurate, and authentic voice that defines who we are, and it belongs to the One who created us. Psalm 139:13 reminds us we were intricately woven together by God, and in Jeremiah 1:5, He proclaims that He knew us even before that!  In Jeremiah 29:11, we hear the beautiful promise that He made good, prosperous plans for our lives.

When others say something about us that stings, let’s take a deep breath and remind ourselves it is irrelevant, because Our Almighty God created us on purpose, and as Ephesians 2:10 says, we are His masterpiece.
