Prayers for Your Husband (based on Ephesians 1)

Marriage can be full of ups, downs, twists, and turns. But it is a team effort (husband, wife, and Jesus!) and nothing can match how rewarding a marriage relationship is.

Praying with and for your spouse can make a powerful difference. Personally, I would describe it as a gamechanger for my husband and me.

In May and June, I shared some prayers from the book of James, chapter 1. Here are the links for all three of the PDFs – PDF #1 Prayers from James,   PDF #2 Prayers from James,    PDF #3 Prayers from James

Now I would like to share with you some prayers that you can pray for your spouse based on Ephesians chapter 1. But before you scroll down to read them, here is a prayer for each one of you:  Lord, I pray for the people who read these prayers and lift their spouses up in prayer. Touch their marriages, Lord. Reveal to them a way where they previously thought a way did not exist. Renew their hope in You and Your ability to strengthen their relationship. Give them a fresh perspective on how to celebrate You, celebrate each other, and celebrate the gift of marriage. In Your name, Amen.

Below you will find three sections of Ephesians 1 and a prayer that goes with each one. Click here for a PDF containing these prayers! You can print them out to use as a bookmark or tape them to your mirror, etc.  (More prayers based on Ephesians will be coming, so be looking for those.)

3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will 6 — to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.  Ephesians 1:3-6 (NIV)

Prayer – Dear Lord, thank You for the countless blessings You have generously given my husband. You continue to provide for his every need; physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.  Help him to be awed by the fact that from the beginning of time You chose him. May the knowledge that he is Yours be the basis for how he sees himself, rather than the world’s opinion of him. I pray he will be forever changed by the grace You freely extend to all of us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace 11 In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, 13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, Ephesians 1:7,11,13 (NIV)

Prayer – Dear Lord, thank You for the grace You continue to pour out upon my marriage. Help my husband to never take for granted the forgiveness of sins You willingly bestowed on all of us through the choice You lovingly made by dying a horrible death on Calvary. Lord, I pray my husband will be firm in his belief that You are in control and are concerned about even the small details of his life. May he always be indebted to You for being sealed by Your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength 20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, Ephesians 1:18-20 (NIV)

Prayer – Dear Lord, I pray that You will give my husband a renewed enthusiasm for the calling You placed on his life. Rekindle his desire to grow closer to You, Lord. Strengthen his faith and make him increasingly aware of Your power working in his life. Lift his eyes so he can see Your genuine hope and cling to it as an anchor. As others observe his actions, I pray they will see a glimpse of You and the difference You can make in their lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Excellent prayers. I have been using Sharon Jaynes’ book Praying for your husband from Head to Toe. She has 31 sets of prayers for a whole month of praying. I just keep repeating them. Sometimes they prick my own heart!

    1. Thanks so much, Mandy! That definitely sounds like something worth reading, thank you for the recommendation!

  2. I love your heart to pray for your husband. When we add scripture to the prayers they become so very powerful.

    1. I agree! When we pray Scripture, we are praying God’s very own promises into the lives of others. Thank you for stopping by!

  3. Wonderful prayers. Thank you for this. In a world that is so dedicated to destroying marriage it is encouraging and uplifting prayers such as these. Thank you so much for sharing them.
